Welcome to Live Ball! Why is it called “live ball,”
anyway? That’s because there are 2 types of tennis training, “dead ball” and
“live ball.” Dead ball training is a drill
in which the coach feeds you a ball, you hit the prescribed shot, and then
nothing happens—the “point” is “dead” after you hit, similar to using a ball
machine alone. This
form of training is great for technical development. Live ball training is
real-time point play, initiated by a coach or player feeding or serving the
ball. The point is then played out with specific tactical goals in mind. This
type of training is great for developing court awareness, positioning and
targeting to successfully finish points in match play. You
will play hundreds of points in a single 90-minute session, maximizing skills
and tactics retention while amping up your cardio endurance!
